What's new
18 October 2026
Clips and pictures
- The picture of Pick a shape shows all seven sentences, the seventh among them (see Add a rule of your own).
- A picture of a posting marked Failed (see Mark a posting Failed).
- New pictures where the screens' words changed: the Database's Save sheet, with Completed postings and Pending compulsory, and Existing residents, with the year group check on a line of its own.
- The clip of solving and comparing re-cut: its Scoring shows the five numbers, the two rewards among them.
- The picture of People is still to come: People is not in the demo.

Changed in the planner in this version
- Add a rule offers a seventh sentence, No resident is in [hospital or specialty] during block [a] and in [hospital or specialty] during block [b], always a Prefer. Two of them penalise a table that puts anyone at SGH in block 5 at either of two other hospitals in block 11 (see Your own rules).
13 October 2026
Changed in the planner in this version, after the coordinators' walkthrough
- Moving up, R1 to R2 or R2 to R3, needs 12 blocks of postings served in the year group, and nothing else. A posting still to do no longer holds anyone back; the pages show it as information, such as stays R1: served 9 of 12 blocks with still to do: Cardiology 3 under it (see How year groups are worked out).
- No posting is a must in R1 or R2. Two rewards under Scoring take the place of the Musts: R1 core postings in R1, reward, starting at 200, and R2 compulsory postings in R2, reward, starting at 25, each from 0 to 1,000 (see The score). An R3 still owes everything left, as far as the year holds it.
- The solver no longer places a posting owed from an earlier year group first.
- A posting can be marked Failed on a Database year, in Edit, from its box sheet: Failed, to be done again marks the whole posting. A failed posting counts for nothing and is owed again (see Mark a posting Failed).
- The Database's Save sheet shows Completed postings and Pending compulsory for each resident a Save touches, before and after.
- Still to come: a picture of a posting marked Failed, and new pictures where the screens' words changed.
12 October 2026
Clips and pictures
- Three clips added: a tour of Home (26 s), reading a result (37 s) and Export (18 s).
- Three clips re-cut on the planner as fixed on 11 October: Plan a new year, now a draft of next year; Add residents, whose past postings paste now adds a year; and File the year, from a clean recording with the sheet's lists.
- Thirteen pictures of the demo's screens, one for each task that had none. The picture of People is still to come: People is not in the demo.
- Still to change: the caption of Type a resident's wishes, to name the specialty, length, hospital and period.
11 October 2026, manual 1.0
Changed in the planner: eight fixes
- Plan a new year makes a draft of next year, whatever the month: in October 2026, AY 27/28 Draft 1. A name in the planner's own form follows a change of Academic year.
- Paste residents: an admission cohort earlier than the year group implies sets where R1 began, and the row says so, such as R1 from AY 23/24, from the admission cohort. Paste everyone, then paste all their postings from R1.
- Paste past postings takes this year as well as earlier years. A year still to come reads Not added: AY 27/28 has not begun.
- On a draft, the box sheet, Paint and the rule pickers offer only the departments the draft was made with. For a department added since, press Duplicate.
- Set the dates notes a block that starts before the one before it ends, such as Starts before block 4 ends. Filing then says Block 5 starts before block 4 ends., not Not saved. Try again.
- Enter it, on a draft's lag line, opens the Database year in Edit with a blank row ready for each resident it counts.
- A resident's own page has Sign out at its foot.
- A resident's page, and the resident's own page, show their wish points, such as Wish points: 183 so far, 50 expected for AY 26/27.
Added
- This manual, grown out of the guide of 7 October 2026. It has:
- your year at a glance, and a practice run in the demo;
- 34 tasks in seven stages;
- how the planner decides, words and settings, and what to do if something goes wrong;
- a page for residents.
- Tasks the guide did not have. Among them: putting this year in through a draft, closing the round, reading a result and a what-if on a duplicate. Also Export, correcting a filed year and starting next year.
Changed: corrections to the guide
- Residents cannot copy last year's wishes forward on their own page. Only coordinators can (see Copy last year's wishes forward).
- A solve does not need a saved draft. It uses the table as it is on screen.
- Existing residents has six groups: R0, R1, R2, R3, Graduated and Left.
- A past postings block can hold a posting, Leave, Left (also written Graduated), or nothing.
- Residents can change their list until the deadline, not at any time.
Help
- Write to hello@roster.sg. Say which page you were on, what you pressed, and the sentence the page showed. The draft's name, or the number in the browser's address bar, helps. Leave residents' names out where you can.
- Many problems have a known answer in If something goes wrong.
